OFFICE CHAIR GAS LIFT REPLACEMENT GUIDE
⚠️ Safety First
· Use caution when handling tools.
· Make sure all screws are fully tightened before using the chair.Step 1 – Prepare the Chair
Place the chair on its side on the floor or on a stable work surface.
Optional Step – Remove Retaining Clip (if present)
· Use a flat-head screwdriver to pry the retaining clip off the bottom of the gas lift.
· Remove the chair base and the gas lift casing from the chair.
· Then proceed to Step 2.Step 2 – Remove the Chair Base
⚠️ Caution: avoid injury
· Hit the bottom of the gas lift with a rubber mallet or hammer until it separates from the chair base.
· Apply lubricant if needed.
· If you have difficulty, turn the entire chair upside down and strike the bottom of the gas lift again.Step 3 – Attach Shaft Collars to the Top of the Gas Lift
· Separate the two halves of the shaft collars (A).
· Attach them around the top of the gas lift.
· Use the Allen wrench (B) to tighten the collars until they are snug but still able to slide.
· Then tighten the bottom shaft collar (A).
· Make sure the threaded holes on both collars (A) are properly aligned.Step 4 – Final Optional Step (same as above)
If you still need to remove a retaining clip after installation:
· Pry the clip off the bottom of the gas lift with a flat-head screwdriver.
· Remove the chair base and casing.
· Return to Step 2 if neededTip: Steps marked “Optional” are only required if your gas lift has a retaining clip. Many modern chairs do not have one.
